To commemorate, World Water Day on 22nd March this year, International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) organised rainwater harvesting awareness raising activities in a few schools in India and Nepal. This was the basis of the formation of the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA) in Geneva in November 2002, following recommendations formulated during the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg two months earlier.
In the ten years of its existence, IRHA has been providing lobbying support and a platform to promote rainwater harvesting to address water supply problems.
