This was some twenty years ago (seventeen actually), to the date, when we were living in Hyderabad. We had bought our first car, a Hyundai Santro, and we were back to driving after having spent the previous three years in Bombay, using public transport.
I chanced upon the traffic safety week announcement in the local newspaper, and decided to take part in the driving competition.
We were asked oral questions about driving and then we had to drive our cars, park, reverse and generally follow the rules. It was a surprise to find myself in The Hindu newspaper the next day (no mention of name, but my pic reflected in the mirror).

And the bigger surprise was when I got a phone call telling me I had won! I couldn’t make it to the prize distribution function, but my prize, a Hyderabadi pearl set, and certificate, was waiting for me at the police station.
