Team games are won by “teams”

Over the past month I’d been saving my newspapers for World Cup Football pictures that would otherwise be difficult to come by. This for my CapsToKeep fridge magnets – Brazil 2014 specials!

While flipping through the newspaper pile, I chanced upon the Hindustan Times (HT) 29th June 2014. This was just after the group matches, and carried a Football “Dream Team”.

The article went like this:
After going through various statistical highlights and the impact a player has had, HT puts together a World XI after the preliminary round.

The HT Dream Team

It is interesting to note that not one of the players from the winning German team made it to this World XI.

The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime. – Babe Ruth (Baseball)

The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best, but my best eleven. – Knute Rockne (American Football)

Football is truly a team game!
